DO call the police to the scene of the accident and cooperate with all law enforcement and emergency personnel. |
DON'T move your vehicle unless necessary for safety or leave the scene of the crash until the police tell you it’s okay to go. |
DO take photographs of license plates, insurance cards, the crash scene, and all vehicle damage. Write down the names, addresses, and phone numbers of all potential witnesses to the crash. |
DON'T throw away any potential evidence in the case, such as defective products, torn or bloodstained clothing, or vehicle parts that came off the car during the accident. |
DO report the crash to your insurance company. Keep the statement precise. |
DON'T give a recorded statement to any insurance company unless you have your attorney present. |
DO seek medical attention within 14 days of the crash to preserve your PIP benefits. |
DON'T sign a release or cash a check without contacting your attorney to review the offer. |
